Barack Obama is worried after Joe Biden bombs on the debate stage 

President Joe Biden was struggling coming into the first Presidential debate against former President Donald Trump.

The 81-year-old President faced serious questions about his age and mental decline.

Debating Trump offered him a chance to quiet the concerns that voters had about mental and physical health.

But stumbling and bumbling through 90 minutes on the debate stage only confirmed the worst about his mental decline.

Former President Barack Obama quickly issued a statement of public support for Biden after the debate.

“Bad debate nights happen. Trust me, I know,” Obama wrote. “But this election is still a choice between someone who has fought for ordinary folks his entire life and someone who only cares about himself. Between someone who tells the truth; who knows right from wrong and will give it to the American people straight — and someone who lies through his teeth for his own benefit. Last night didn’t change that, and it’s why so much is at stake in November.”

Prominent Democrats joined Obama in backing Biden after his brutal debate.

But as the post-debate polls came in, things began to shift behind the scenes in the Democrat Party.

Democrats began to call for Biden to drop out of the race after it became apparent there was nothing he could do to ease worries about his mental state.

Obama has been increasingly involved in supporting the Biden campaign by hosting high-dollar fundraisers and encouraging skeptical Democrats to rally around the President.

But the debate could be a turning point in their relationship.

“Former President Barack Obama has privately told allies who have reached out to him that President Biden’s already tough path to reelection grew more challenging after his shaky debate performance on Thursday — a harsher assessment of the presidential race than his public comments, according to several people familiar with his remarks,” The Washington Post reported.

Obama has privately warned about Trump’s political strength since last year and was worried before the debate that he could win the election.

Biden has vowed that he’s going to stay in the race.

“They’re trying to push me out of the race. Well, let me say this as clearly as I can: I’m staying in the race,” Biden said at a Wisconsin campaign rally. 

Now, he’s facing more Members of Congress calling on him to step down.

And several high-profile donors have vowed to stop donating to Democrats until Biden is replaced on the ticket.

Obama continuing to back Biden could keep the forces at bay in the Democrat Party who are trying to replace him.

Now that Obama’s doubts are growing about the President’s re-election chances, he could lose the line of defense against having the plug pulled on his re-election campaign.
