The 2024 Election is going to be hotly contested in states across the country.

Democrats are hoping to put Florida in play.

And Ron DeSantis burst into laughter when he was asked this question about 2024.

Democrats think abortion will make Florida competitive for Joe Biden

After a lengthy legal battle over Pro-Life legislation in state court, Florida’s heartbeat bill, which bans abortion after six weeks, with some exceptions, is going into effect.

Democrats are hoping to use abortion to their political advantage this year.

Pro-abortion activists managed to get a constitutional amendment on the November ballot that would enshrine abortion-on-demand until the moment of birth into the Florida Constitution.

Florida has drifted away from Democrats in recent election cycles – highlighted by their route up and down the ticket in the 2022 Midterm Elections.

But they think that abortion can be their ace in the hole for the Sunshine State in 2024 by turning out more Democrat-leaning and younger voters.

President Joe Biden and the Democrats have no record of accomplishment to run on this year, so they’re doubling down on abortion as a campaign message.

Ron DeSantis laughs at a question from a reporter about the state of play in Florida

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is known for his button-down demeanor at press conferences.

But a reporter got a rare laugh out of him when he was asked about trips that Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have made to the state in recent weeks and if Florida was in play.

DeSantis pointed out that Democrats would have an “uphill climb” in winning Florida after the Republican voter registration in the state ballooned to over 900,000 voters.

He added that Democrats were struggling to come up with a message on issues that voters care about, like inflation and illegal immigration.

“I welcome Biden-Harris to spend a lot of money in Florida. Light up the airwaves,” DeSantis said. “Do it, light it on fire. We are fine with you doing that here. But I can confidently predict that you’ll see Republican victories, not just at the top of the ticket, but up and down the ballot.”

DeSantis’ remarks came shortly before a trip by Harris to Jacksonville, where she attacked the heartbeat bill for going into effect.

“The event will take place on the day the state is set to implement an abortion ban even more extreme than the one currently in effect,” a statement from the Biden campaign read.  “The Vice President will discuss the harms inflicted by state abortion bans and continue to make the case that ‘Donald Trump did this.’”

Biden traveled to the Tampa area recently, where he attacked the heartbeat bill and Trump for creating the conditions that overturned Roe v. Wade.

Florida is a stretch for the Biden campaign in 2024 but they’re trying to put as many states in play as possible.

Trump leads in polling in the seven major swing states that are expected to decide the election – North Carolina, Georgia, Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Nevada, and Arizona.

So, Joe Biden is scrambling to find a way to expand his path to 270 Electoral Votes, and that means hoping for a miracle in Florida.
