Mitch McConnell despises that Donald Trump didn’t fade away after the 2020 Election.

Now, the pair had their first face-to-face meeting in years.

And Mitch McConnell said four words to Donald Trump that he never thought he would hear.

Mitch McConnell says he supports Donald Trump as the Republican Party nominee

It’s no secret that there’s bad blood between former President Donald Trump and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY).

McConnell was asked by a reporter if he stood by his support for Trump as the Republican Party’s Presidential nominee ahead of the former President’s meeting with Congressional Republicans.

The Senate Minority Leader said, “he’s earned the nomination.”

“I said three years ago, right after the Capitol was attacked, that I will support our nominee regardless of who it was, including him,” McConnell told reporters. “I said earlier this year I supported him. He’s earned the nomination by the voters all across the country. Of course, I’ll be in the meeting tomorrow.”

McConnell is stepping down as Minority Leader in November but claims he’ll serve out the rest of his term until early 2027.

Donald Trump meets with Congressional Republicans on Capitol Hill

Trump headed to the “Swamp” in Washington, D.C. for closed-door meetings with House and Senate Republicans.

That was the first time that the former President and McConnell had spoken to each other since December 2020.

His meeting with Congressional Republicans was to talk strategy for the 2024 Election and politics in his first trip back to Capitol Hill since January 6, 2021.

Trump said that his “secret weapon” this election cycle was holding tele-rallies for GOP House candidates.

A source told the Daily Caller that he planned to hold more than tele-rallies this election cycle.

The former President reportedly stressed Republican unity for the election during the meetings.

“I’m with them 1,000 percent. They’re with me 1,000 percent,” Trump told reporters after he met with Senate Republicans. “We agree on just about everything and if there isn’t, we work it out.”

Josh Hawley talks about Trump’s meeting with Senate Republicans

U.S. Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) appeared on The Ingraham Angle to talk about Trump’s Capitol Hill meeting with Fox News host Laura Ingraham.

“I mean, he returns as the nominee of the party who has dominated, dominated the party’s primaries,” Hawley said. “He is now dominating the race for president, and we can see why. His policies worked. Joe Biden’s didn’t. And the old Republican establishment, Laura, there’s just not much left of it. Voters hate it. Trump is beating it, and that is good for America.”

Hawley said that he didn’t see Trump and McConnell converse during the event but that the Senate Minority Leader had accepted reality.

“You know, I didn’t see Trump and Romney interact, but I certainly did see Mitch and Trump interact,” Hawley responded. “And listen, I mean, this is a guy, let’s not forget, I mean Senator McConnell has refused to say Trump’s name for years, I mean, won’t speak it even. And there he was sitting at Trump’s right-hand today, sitting right there on his right at the table. I mean, right at the head of the table and wanting to be there as Trump walked into the room, he’s just acknowledging reality, which is that the voters of this nation are choosing Trump.”

In the end, the establishment couldn’t pry control of the Republican Party away from Donald Trump.
